Enhancing Cooperation Prospects with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

On Tuesday, January 21st, Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Mrs. Fatima Thabet Chiboub, received the Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa of the FAO, Mr. Abdelhakim Rajab Mohamed Al-Waer, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The meeting was also attended by the Director-General of Food Industries, Mrs. Hamida Belkaid, the Director-General of the Canned Food Industries Group, Mr. Mohsen Boulaares, and the Director-General of the Technical Center for Food Industries, Mr. Issam Krid.

The two sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the food industries sector since this sector contributes to achieving food security, regional development, boosting exports, increasing production, and ensuring quality and health safety.

This sector includes 965 companies employing approximately 77,000 workers. It contributes 3.1% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 25% of the industrial investment value, and 15% of employment opportunities.
